We recently visited Jamaica and went on a 4-hour tour into the beautiful mountains. There is poverty everywhere, however these Jamaican residents are some of the happiest people we've seen! Some live in huts on dirt floors. We stopped and visited with many of the locals, who are thankful for their beautiful country and have scarce material possessions.
Many people in our country are in the rut of making progress to get to a goal in the future. There is a certain type of tunnel-vision that goes with this, that they don't notice the things going on around them NOW!
Things that could bring a little joy to their work day get passed over by some mystical goal somewhere off in the future they are working towards. "I'll be so glad when . . . " or maybe something like "I'll be getting to enjoy my life as soon as we get the house paid off and the kids are done with college". But what about the time that it takes to get there? What about now?
It is entirely possible to work towards a goal while simultaneously enjoying life. In fact, goals are necessary to have a fulfilled life. However -Goals are not the only thing in life!
There is a song by Bobby McFerrin - "Don't worry, be happy... in every life we have some trouble, when you worry you make it double! Don't worry! Be Happy!" And here it is, we encourage you to watch and listen :-D
